Widower Is Barred from Boarding a Flight with His Newborn Baby, 82-Year-Old Meredith Helps Him — Story of the Day

Bob Hollis, a 40-year-old widower, traveled to Florida to retrieve his newborn baby after his wife tragically died during childbirth. Despite his grief, Bob was determined to bring their child home. However, when he reached the airport to board his flight, he was informed that he couldn’t take the baby on the plane without a birth certificate and that she needed to be at least seven days old.

Stranded and alone in Florida, Bob remembered Mrs. Sticks, a compassionate volunteer at the hospital who had offered him her contact information. Desperate, he reached out to her, and Mrs. Sticks welcomed Bob and his daughter into her home, providing comfort and support during this difficult time. She helped Bob through the bureaucratic process and even assisted with his wife’s arrangements. Grateful for her kindness, Bob stayed in touch with Mrs. Sticks and later honored her memory by establishing a charity in her name.
