My MIL Refused to Repay Her Debt, Saying It’s ‘Shameful’ to Demand Money from a ‘Mother’

Everly loved her mother-in-law, Victoria, and eagerly offered a substantial loan when Victoria lost her job. However, months later, when Everly and her husband needed the loan back, Victoria refused, claiming it was disrespectful to demand money from family. Frustrated, Everly decided to teach her a lesson.

One evening, Everly and her husband called Victoria, asking for the repayment to fix their broken refrigerator. Victoria, to their shock, refused, insisting it was shameful to ask for money from one’s mother-in-law. This marked a turning point for Everly.

Over the following weeks, Everly subtly mirrored Victoria’s logic by refusing to help her with various tasks, asserting they were too busy. Eventually, they confronted her at a family gathering. Embarrassed by the public exposure, Victoria begrudgingly repaid the loan after being questioned by friends and family.

This experience taught Everly that sometimes, firm boundaries are necessary, even within family.
