66-year-old mom criticized after giving birth to twin boys

Motherhood is a profound and timeless responsibility, and for some, it comes unexpectedly, while for others, it’s the result of years of hope and patience. Regardless of how it happens, motherhood is always a blessing.

Though the journey to parenthood can take many forms, every child deserves to be celebrated, and every mother honored for her remarkable journey. Some women embrace motherhood young, while others may face struggles or delays, but there’s no one right path.

Maria Carmen del Bousada, a retired store employee from Spain, defied expectations when, at 66, she became the oldest mother in the world. Despite criticism and judgment, Maria sold her house and underwent IVF to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother, giving birth to twin boys in 2006. Her story proves that motherhood has no expiration date.
