U.S. Air Force fighter jets intercepted an aircraft that violated a temporary flight restriction (TFR) over President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Sunday, marking the second such violation in 48 hours.
The Continental U.S. NORAD region launched F-16s in response to over 20 airspace violations since Trump’s inauguration in January. The jets deployed flares to communicate with the civilian aircraft, which pose no danger to those on the ground.
Trump was at his Palm Beach golf course during the incident. NORAD emphasized the importance of adhering to TFR procedures for flight safety and national security, citing the numerous violations as a result of aviators not reading FAA Notice to Airmen.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Secret Service shot an armed man near the White House after a confrontation, following a tip about a suicidal individual traveling from Indiana. The investigation is ongoing.
