Recently divorced woman moves into 10’x11′ shed and coverts it into lovely tiny home

She lost almost everything in her divorce—except for a broken shed. What she did with it is truly inspiring. With strength and creativity, Heather transformed it into a cozy home.

For many, a large house is the dream. But more and more people today choose smaller spaces, valuing simplicity, lower costs, and easier upkeep. Tiny homes can be just as comfortable, if not more freeing, than a mansion.

Heather knows this better than most. A world traveler who once lived in a van, she decided during the pandemic to ground herself and start fresh. The shed she converted measures only 10’x11′, yet she turned it into a full-time residence.

From the outside, the shed looks modest and unfinished. Heather chose not to invest much into the exterior, keeping her options open in case she decides to travel again. But inside tells a completely different story.

Stepping through the door, a small workspace sits to the right, framed by a window with stunning views. To the left, Heather created a snug living area, complete with a swinging desk for movie nights and a couch layered with pillows.

The central space combines fireplace, kitchen, and bathroom. A wood stove warms the home on chilly days, while a camping stove is enough for cooking. Open shelves hold glassware and pantry goods, while a fridge—once her mother’s—stores food and travel mementos. A composting toilet cleverly hides under the sink.

Above the living area, a loft bedroom provides just enough space to sleep. For Heather, the real magic lies in how the home feels. She says, “For the first time in my life, I had control over what I wanted. It feels open and airy.”

Her shed home is more than shelter—it’s a symbol of resilience, independence, and hope.
