Nurse takes photo of old lady’s hand

The devil’s in the detail, as the old saying goes. By listening to those who are older and wiser than us, we can often learn and grow, gaining experience we otherwise wouldn’t.

Nurses are there to witness some of the worst moments of people’s lives on an almost daily basis. That said, you could surmise that it’s nurses who get to see more miracles than anyone else. As was the case with nurse Brandalyn Mae Porter, when she saw the detail on one old woman’s hands …

When Brandalyn Mae Porter shared an image on social media, all people saw were the hands of an old woman. That was until they read Brandalyn’s words, and then they saw the hands in a completely different light.

“Today I painted a new residents nails at work and as we were going over colors, she mentioned she wanted clear. The only thought that came to my mind was ‘CLEAR?! That’s no fun.’

“I asked her why she wanted clear and she said, ‘My hands are ugly, I don’t want to draw attention to them.’ I then carefully responded with, ‘Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell the story of love, of care and adventure. These hands have touched and held things that most people can only wish to one day.’ And with that, she went with the color pink for her nails.
