Nacional Footballer Dies at 27 after Tragedy in the 84th Minute of Match: Details

Uruguayan footballer Juan Izquierdo tragically passed away on August 28, 2024, after collapsing during a Copa Libertadores match between Nacional and São Paulo. The 27-year-old defender suffered cardiac arrest during the game and was rushed to the hospital. Despite initial stability, his condition worsened, and he passed away after being placed on a ventilator.

Nacional expressed their grief, writing, “We express our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.” Juan’s wife, Selena, who recently gave birth to their second child, shared a heartfelt letter: “Today I had to say goodbye to my other half, the love of my life… You left so much life to live, so much path to walk, my Juanma.”

Tributes poured in from across the football world, including heartfelt messages from FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez, who described the loss as a deeply painful moment for all.
