Little Girl Writes Her Brother Every Year, Pleading for Rescue from Her Stepfather, Until She Finally Gets a Reply — Story of the Day

Ellie, an eleven-year-old, writes letters to her brother, Lenny, hoping to escape her abusive stepfather, Carl. One night, she receives a mysterious reply urging her to meet, sparking newfound hope.

Ellie often wrote alone by the window, her heart poured into each word. “Dear Lenny, I’m writing to you again on my birthday. I really hope to see you soon.”

Her memories of happier times with Lenny in the garden brought a fleeting smile. She continued, “Carl doesn’t let me go outside. Please take me away from here. I don’t want to live with Carl anymore.”

That night, Ellie found a letter tied to a branch outside her window. It read, “Dear Ellie, sorry for not responding for so long. Come to the nearby bus stop tomorrow morning, and we will meet.”

Ellie packed her things and, despite Carl’s forbidding her to leave, she snuck out. At the bus stop, she met Peter, a kind postman who had replied to her letters. He offered to help her find her brother and eventually adopt her, giving Ellie the loving family she longed for.
