I Thought My Father Was a Poor Janitor until I Got $1M Inheritance after His Death — Story of the Day

After their estranged father, Walter, dies, Dylan and Tyler each inherit a million dollars. The shock begins when Tyler receives an early morning email stating their father has passed away, leading them to investigate his mysterious life.

The brothers visit Walter’s former workplace, a school where he worked as a janitor. Principal Mrs. Collins reveals, “Your father spoke often of you. He was very proud.” She gives them a lawyer’s contact, revealing Walter left them safety deposit boxes.

At the lawyer’s office, Mr. Jacobs hands them the keys to the boxes, saying, “Your father was a very private person.” Inside are stacks of cash. Dylan asks, “Why would Dad live like a janitor when he had all this money?” Tyler responds, “I have no idea.”

Searching for answers, they learn from locals that Walter lived simply to avoid the troubles wealth brought him. An old letter found later explains, “I kept it secret out of shame for leaving you in poverty. I ran away from my problems, and for that, I’m deeply sorry.”

The brothers decide to honor their father’s legacy by opening a foundation, embracing his lessons of humility and sacrifice.
