I found this under my mattress – at first I thought they were insect eggs, but the reality really surprised me.

That afternoon, I decided to flip the mattress and wash the sheets. Everything seemed normal until I noticed a cluster of tiny black grains tucked into the corner of the bed.

They were dull yet slightly shiny, like miniature pieces of coal.

My stomach dropped. My first thought: insect eggs. Maybe roaches? Beetles? My skin frozed just thinking about it.

I grabbed a piece of paper and carefully scooped a few of them up to inspect.
