Great hacks every family needs

Opening a fridge to find an unpleasant odor is an experience many have faced. Forgotten food, moldy cheese, leaks, or simply the mix of strong-smelling items can create an unappetizing stench. Whatever the cause, it makes reaching for a snack far less appealing.

Regular cleaning is essential, but there are also clever hacks that can help neutralize lingering smells. One surprising method involves placing a roll of toilet paper inside the fridge. Known for absorbing moisture, it also traps unpleasant odors overnight, leaving the space fresher by morning.

For those hesitant to store toilet paper near food, newspaper offers an alternative. Lightly dampen and crumple sheets into balls before placing them in corners. Another option is to line compartments with newspaper, swapping it weekly to maintain effectiveness.

Bread can serve a similar purpose. Acting as a moisture absorber with a mild scent, a slice left inside the fridge will help fight odors for up to a month before needing replacement.

Citrus peels also work wonders. Instead of discarding orange or tangerine skins, spread them throughout compartments. Their refreshing aroma masks unpleasant smells, though they should be replaced every three days.

Baking soda is a household favorite for deodorizing. Just a few spoonfuls in an uncovered container can absorb smells until the powder becomes saturated and needs refreshing.

Fresh lemons bring both fragrance and freshness. Sliced and placed around shelves, they provide a natural deodorizer while adding a crisp citrus scent.

Tea leaves and coffee grounds also serve as odor neutralizers. About 50 grams of dried tea can last a month before needing to be dried and reused, while coffee grounds in a small bag or cup keep smells at bay for around three weeks.
