Entitled Landlord Raised Our Rent by $650 – We Had Enough and Taught Him a Costly Lesson

When our landlord hiked our rent by $650, it was the last straw. Living in a rundown apartment with a broken fridge and constant harassment pushed us to the edge. Determined to get revenge, we concocted a clever plan to make him regret his greed and teach him an unforgettable lesson.

Dennis here. Let me tell you about the time my wife, Amber, and I dealt with the landlord from hell while saving for our dream house. It’s been a rollercoaster, but we learned a lot along the way.

Amber and I moved into this tiny, run-down apartment a little over a year ago. We were pinching pennies, trying to save up for a place of our own. The trouble started right from the get-go. Our landlord, Mr. Williams, was a nightmare. He ignored our complaints about the broken fridge and unannounced visits.

When we asked to extend our lease by two months, he agreed but increased the rent by $650. We had no choice but to agree. The financial strain was immense. When it was finally time to move out, we cleaned the apartment until it was spotless. However, Mr. Williams refused to return our deposit, claiming we had trashed the place.

Amber and I decided to take revenge. We placed tuna behind the AC vents, rotten eggs in the curtain rails, spilled milk on the bathroom mat, and put dead mice on top of the ceiling fans. Two months later, our old apartment was still vacant due to the terrible smell. Mr. Williams called, demanding we fix it. Amber coolly responded, “What are you going to do? Sue us? Try proving anything.”

In the end, Mr. Williams agreed to return our deposit and the extra rent. We cleaned up the mess and moved on, satisfied that we had gotten justice.
