Daughter Calls 911 To Order A Pizza, But Saves Her Mother’s Life Instead

A 911 dispatcher was initially puzzled when a woman called to order a pizza. After confirming it wasn’t a mistake, the dispatcher, Tim Teneyck, realized the call was a cry for help. The woman was likely using the pizza order as a code to signal distress while being in the presence of an abusive partner.

This strategy, promoted by domestic violence groups, had been highlighted in a 2015 Super Bowl PSA. However, authorities stress that texting 911 is a better option where available. In Oregon, Ohio, where the call was made, texting wasn’t possible, so the dispatcher stayed on the line to assess the situation.

The woman was eventually rescued, and her abuser, Simon Lopez, was arrested for domestic violence. Police Chief Michael Navarre praised Teneyck’s quick thinking and plans to use the case in training.
