I always thought having a baby would bring my husband and me closer, but I never anticipated how his mother, Jessica, would tear us apart. From the start, she disliked me and when I got pregnant, she took over everything—dictating every detail of my pregnancy, the nursery, and even my medical appointments. My husband, Bill, let her, and when we found out the baby was a girl, Jessica’s cruel words about needing a boy stung. She even knew about the ultrasound appointment before I did because Bill told her.Labor was a nightmare. I nearly died, losing a lot of blood, and when I woke up, I found Jessica holding my baby, Eliza. She refused to let me breastfeed her, pushing for formula instead. The tension continued as Jessica arrived every day, and one afternoon, she handed Bill an envelope claiming I wasn’t faithful. Without question, Bill believed her and kicked me and Eliza out of the house, Heartbroken, I stayed with my mother. Later, I returned to Bill, handed him a DNA test proving Eliza was his daughter, but it was too late. He asked me to come back, but I told him I was filing for divorce and seeking full custody. As I drove away with Eliza, I knew we would be fine.
