Henkel, a German consumer goods company, has recalled over 1,000 bottles of its Tec Italy Totale Shampoo due to potential contamination with Klebsiella oxytoca, a harmful bacterium that can cause infections of the eyes, skin, and nose. The affected bottles were primarily distributed in New York and California, though Henkel has not ruled out the possibility that other states may also be impacted, The shampoo is sold online and accessible to European customers. The recalled product is packaged in green 33.81 fl oz (1-liter) bottles, marked with lot number 1G27542266 and UPC code 7501438375850. Klebsiella oxytoca is not dangerous when confined to the intestinal tract. However, if it enters the bloodstream or other parts of the body, it can lead to serious infections such as pneumonia, and may be fatal in 10–20% of cases. Individuals with weakened immune systems are, at higher risk. Henkel emphasized that no injuries or illnesses have been reported so far. The recall is classified as Class II, indicating that serious health effects are unlikely but possible. Consumers are advised to stop using the product and return it for a full refund. Anyone with symptoms or concerns should consult a healthcare provider immediately.
