My Downstairs Neighbor Asked Me to Be Quieter at Night, but I Have Not Been Home for the past Week

When Piper returns from a trip with her friends, she cannot wait to get home to her husband. But as she unpacks her car, a neighbor approaches her, complaining about the noise from her apartment. If Piper wasn’t home, who was Matthew entertaining in her absence?

I had just returned from a blissful week-long camping trip with my friends, enjoying a break from city life. My husband, Matthew, stayed behind, citing work responsibilities.

“Are you sure?” I had asked. “Why don’t you come along and work from there?”

“It’s okay, sweetheart,” he had replied. “You need this break.”

Returning home, I felt rejuvenated. “I missed you,” I said as I walked in, smelling dinner cooking.

While unpacking, our neighbor Mrs. Peterson approached, looking stern. “Could you keep it quiet at night? It’s been noisy all week.”

I blinked, confused. “I haven’t been home. Are you sure it was our place?”

She frowned. “It sounded like a party every night.”

I rushed upstairs, my mind racing. “Matt, we need to talk. Who was making noise here?”

He sighed, admitting he had rented out our apartment to make money after losing his job. Relieved, I hugged him. “We’ll face this together.”
