I never expected to fall in love with Jason. Our marriagehad been arranged by our parents to strengthen abusiness partnership. I was only twenty, and Jason wastwenty-one. We had just two months to get to know eachother before our wedding. Neither of us knew whetherlove could grow between two strangers.
A few months after our wedding, I discovered I waspregnant. We were both shocked, but when I told Jason Iwanted to keep the baby, he supported me. When ourdaughter, Lily, was born, Jason surprised me by taking ayear off work to help raise her. He attended everyappointment, stayed awake during sleepless nights, andbecame the most devoted father.
Now Lily was seven months old, and we were visitingJason’s parents. Everyone was gathered around her, showering her with attention. I watched Jason helping hismother prepare dinner and wondered whether he wastruly happy with the life we had built. Sometimes I worriedthat our marriage had happened too quickly.
As I walked toward the kitchen, I overheard Jason talkingto his mother. “I don’t know what I’d do without Aria andLily, Mom,” he said. “Before them, I only cared aboutparties and having fun. Now I wake up grateful for the lifeI have. Aria has made me a better man, and Lily hastaught me what real love means.”
His mother smiled. “I’m glad you found happiness, son. Iwas worried about this arrangement, but look at thebeautiful family you’ve created.”
Tears filled my eyes. I had spent months wonderingwhether Jason regretted marrying me, never realizing howdeeply he loved us.
That evening, after putting Lily to bed, Jason noticed mysilence. I finally confessed that I’d overheard hisconversation. He looked embarrassed but gently held myhand.
“Everything I said was true, Aria. You and Lily are mywhole world.”
The following evening, I prepared his favorite dinner, decorated our home with candles, and left little love notesaround the house.
As we sat together, I realized something beautiful: Ourmarriage may have been arranged, but our love wasentirely our own.
