Men asking for my daughter

When the principal called, his voice tense, Piper felt immediate dread. A group of men had come to the school asking for her daughter, Letty, by name, mentioning her late husband. Still grieving Jonathan’s death just three months earlier, Piper feared something else was about to be taken from them. She rushed out the door, her mind racing, barely able to process what was happening.

The night before, she had found Letty in the bathroom, holding scissors and a cut-off piece of her own hair. Through tears, Letty explained she had done it for a classmate named Millie, who was recovering from illness and being teased for her hair. Wanting to help, Letty had decided to donate her own, hoping it could be made into a wig. Piper, overwhelmed but proud, comforted her daughter and promised to fix what she could.

At the salon, Teresa and her husband Luis helped repair Letty’s uneven haircut. When Luis realized Letty was Jonathan’s daughter, he spoke warmly about her father, recalling his kindness and compassion. That moment connected the past to the present, showing Letty that her actions reflected the same generosity her father had lived by.

By morning, Letty’s hair was fixed, and the wig was ready. She carried it to school, nervous but hopeful. When Piper arrived after the call, she realized the men weren’t a threat—they were her husband’s former coworkers, there to honor his memory. In that unexpected moment, Letty’s small act of kindness had carried Jonathan’s love forward, proving that even in loss, something meaningful remains.
