Dubai — A major fire broke out Saturday evening at Fairmont The Palm, one of the city’s best-known luxury hotels, after falling debris reportedly struck the Palm Jumeirah area amid a wider wave of regional missile and drone activity.

Images circulating online showed thick smoke rising above the hotel shortly after loud explosions were heard across parts of the city. Dubai Civil Defence confirmed that firefighting teams responded quickly and later brought the blaze under control.

What Is Known So Far

The incident occurred on February 28, 2026, during heightened regional tensions following Iranian retaliatory strikes across the Gulf. UAE defense authorities stated that multiple incoming projectiles were intercepted over Gulf airspace. Officials indicated that debris from an intercepted missile or drone may have fallen near the hotel, triggering a secondary fire.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the hotel was directly struck or whether the damage resulted solely from falling fragments. Investigations are ongoing.
