My Dad Who Left 20 Years Ago Called from His Deathbed for a Final Wish — What He Asked Broke My Heart

When my estranged father, who left 20 years ago, called from his deathbed, I was torn between anger and curiosity. His final wish was something I never expected, and what he revealed about his disappearance shattered everything I thought I knew.

One evening, an unfamiliar number flashed on my phone. I ignored it, but a text followed: “ALICE, THIS IS YOUR DAD. PLEASE CALL, I AM IN THE HOSPITAL.”

My heart stopped. After twenty years, he was reaching out? I hesitated but called back. His weak voice answered, “Alice, I don’t have much time.”

Anger surged. “Why now?” I demanded.

“I need to explain. Your grandfather paid me to leave. He hated me and wanted someone better for your mom.”

Stunned, I listened as he confessed his struggles with addiction and how he took the money, thinking it would secure my future. He had been watching my life from a distance, always regretting his absence.

His dying wish was to see me. With mixed emotions, I decided to visit him, seeking closure.
