91-Year-Old Widow Entraps Thieves after They Attempt to Rob Her House — Story of the Day

At 91, Dolores was living alone after the death of her husband, Vernon. Her home, filled with valuable antiques, had been the target of several robbery attempts, especially since Vernon was a well-known antiquarian. One evening, Dolores noticed her neighbor, Bob, an unemployed alcoholic, acting suspiciously around her property.

The next day, Dolores heard a noise in her backyard and found Bob and an accomplice trying to break in. Although she couldn’t call the police without proof, she installed security cameras and remained vigilant. One night, when the burglars returned, Dolores cleverly tricked them by pretending to talk to her late husband about the valuable antiques in the garage, which she knew they could hear,

While the thieves tried to break in, Dolores sprayed them with gas and locked them in the garage. The police arrived just in time to arrest them. One of the thieves was Bob, confirming Dolores’ suspicions. The officer commended her for her bravery and quick thinking,

After the incident, Dolores’ son, Todd, moved his family closer to her, and they rebranded Vernon’s antique shop as “Dolores and Vernon’s Treasure House.” Despite the danger, Dolores was proud of her ability to outsmart the thieves and keep herself safe.
